Upsells and gifts

Applies to: TreStack Checkout, Pro on Shopify Plus; upsells on every plan without Shopify Plus

On a store on Shopify Plus, both need the Pro plan. On a store not on Shopify Plus, upsells are included in every plan and show on the thank you and order status pages; gifts are not available, since Shopify allows apps on the checkout page only for Shopify Plus stores. See Plans and billing.

Upsells

An upsell offers extra products in checkout, on the thank you page or on the order status page.

1. On Home, under Offers and surveys, open Checkout upsells (or open App blocks, pick a page, and select Upsell Products). Choose Create upsell.
2. Name. Type an Upsell name (only you see it) and set Status to Active or Draft.
3. When to show it. Choose Always show this upsell (no conditions), or Match conditions and add conditions: Total units in cart, Cart subtotal, Order total, Product in cart, Collection in cart.
4. Products to offer. Either:
   • Manually select products, in the order you want; or
   • Use automatic product recommendations from Shopify's Search & Discovery (Related Products or Complementary Products). Products already in the cart are not offered.
5. Optionally, Apply a discount exclusive to the upsell: a New Discount (a percentage the app creates) or an Existing Discount Code.
6. Optionally, under Never offer (optional), list products or collections this upsell leaves out.
7. Choose Save.
8. Add the Upsells & Recommended Products block in the checkout editor, as in Getting started. The upsell list shows Upsells are not on checkout yet until you do.

Other settings: Priority (when several upsells match and Can be combined with other upsells is off, the lowest number shows), and under Customer eligibility a Customer type (All customers, B2B, Not B2B) and Limit to countries. A product can also be offered as a subscription with Add as subscription (selling plan).

The block's look (layout, headings, progress bar, reviews, display conditions) is set in profiles under More actions > Advanced settings on the upsell list. Advanced settings need the Pro plan on a store on Shopify Plus; otherwise the block uses the settings typed in the checkout editor.

To move upsells between stores, select them in the list and choose Export. In the other store, choose More actions > Import from a file, then Import as draft. An imported upsell is always a draft, so you can check its products before turning it on.

On the thank you and order status pages, an upsell sends the buyer to a cart with the product, since the first order is already placed. See Analytics for how these are counted.

Gifts with purchase

A gift adds products to the cart when a condition is met, for example a free sample when the cart total is over an amount.

1. On Home, under Offers and surveys, open Gifts with purchase, then choose Create gift.
2. Name. Type a Gift name and set Status. An optional Schedule limits it to a time window.
3. When to add it. Under Select Condition, pick for example Always Add Product, Based on product in cart, Based on Cart Total, Discount Code Present, Market, or Multiple Conditions (AND/OR).
4. Products to add, with a Quantity for each.
5. Choose Save, then add the Auto Add Product (Gift with Purchase) block in the checkout editor. The list shows Gifts are not on checkout yet until you do.

Good to know:

• Shopify only lets an app add a product by itself when it is free. A product that is not free is shown to the buyer with an add button instead.
• Remove gift from cart when condition is not met (recommended) takes the gift out again if the cart stops qualifying. Turn on Only remove if added by this app if the gift is also a product buyers purchase at full price.
• Let customer choose their gift(s) shows a gift picker instead of adding every product.
• Make product required stops checkout until the product is in the cart.
