App blocks

App blocks add content and fields to Shopify's checkout, thank you and order status pages: banners, trust badges, payment icons, custom fields, checkboxes, gift options, a free shipping progress bar, contact info, social links and more.

Which pages

Open App blocks and, under Pages, pick a page. Each page lists the blocks available there, with Search blocks and a Category filter (Actions, Content, Input, Media, Increase sales). Select a block to open it; the (i) button shows its Details, with Set up to open it.

Some blocks exist only on the checkout page (for example Custom Checkbox, Custom Input, Payment Icons, Delivery Instructions), so they need the Growth plan.

Profiles

A block keeps its settings in profiles (Profile 1, Profile 2…). A block has five or ten profiles; the block's page shows how many you use (Profiles, 2 of 5 in use). Use several profiles to show the same block with different content in different places, for example one banner above the shipping methods and another on the thank you page.

• Add profile sets up the next profile from a template. A Nickname helps you tell profiles apart.
• Edit opens a profile. In the editor, Editing Profile switches between profiles. Changes apply only to the selected one.
• The profile menu has Export profile, Replace from a file and Reset profile. Import profile loads an exported profile, also from another store; check products, collections and translation settings after importing.

The profile is picked in the checkout editor: select the block and choose the profile in its Settings Profile setting. See Getting started.

Display conditions

Most blocks have a group of display conditions (named Visibility or Display conditions in the editor). Add conditions, then choose under Match logic whether All conditions must pass (AND) or Any condition can pass (OR).

Conditions include, among others: the cart's products or collections, the shipping country, the checkout language, the payment type, Customer is B2B, Customer is Logged In, Desktop Devices Only and Mobile Devices Only. Some conditions, such as the order's financial or fulfillment status, work only on the order status page.

Customer tags only work at checkout for signed-in buyers. Guest checkouts have no tags.

Buyers' answers on the order

Input blocks (Custom Checkbox, Custom Input, Delivery Instructions, Gift Options and others) can save the buyer's answer on the order. Set the block's save location setting (for example Save Location) to Order metafields. Each block type has one metafield on the order (for example Checkbox answers), listing every answer by its label. You find it in the order's Metafields section in Shopify.

This needs the app's optional permission to edit orders. If you have not approved it, the app's pages show Additional permissions needed: choose Approve permissions and approve in Shopify.

Blocking checkout

Input blocks such as Custom Checkbox and Custom Input have Allow app to block checkout. When it is on, a buyer cannot complete checkout until the field is filled in correctly.

Translations

Texts you type in a block follow the default language. To show other text in other languages, choose Translations in the block editor, or see Translations.
