Add a timer to the cart page and cart drawer
Applies to: TreStack Timer
Updated: 5 November 2026
- Mode: Fixed minutes per visitor, 15 by default
- Shows: Only while the cart has items
- Where: Cart page and cart drawer
A cart timer gives each visitor their own countdown, kept in their browser, on the cart page and in the cart drawer of your theme. It shows only while the cart holds products from your store.
Set it up
- In TreStack Timer, create a timer and pick the cart type.
- On the Content tab, set the minutes. A cart timer always uses fixed minutes, 15 by default.
- Write the title and put
{timer}where the clock should appear. The default title already ends with it. Bold, italic and underline are kept; other tags are removed. - Still on Content, choose what happens at zero: hide the timer for the buyer (the default), repeat the countdown, or delete all the items in the cart.
- On the Design tab, pick a layout and colors. Keep the title to one line so it fits a narrow drawer.
- On the Placement tab, keep the top of the cart, which covers the cart page and the drawer, or choose Custom position to place it with the app block.
- Choose Publish.
Check it on your store
Add an item to the cart and open the cart drawer, then load the cart page. The countdown shows in both. Remove the item: the timer goes, and the countdown is forgotten, so it starts again the next time that shopper fills the cart.
Good to know
- Drawer not found? If the timer shows on the cart page but not in the drawer, set the Cart drawer selector on the app embed in the theme editor, for example
#my-cart-drawer. If you do not know the selector, write to us with the store URL. - Repeat is never the default. A countdown that starts over tells shoppers about a deadline that is not real. Pick it only when the offer really renews.
- Delete all the items removes your own products from a real shopper's cart. Products other stores sell through yours stay, and they never show the timer either.
The full settings, and how the drawer is found, are in Cart page and cart drawer timers.
Place a timer anywhere with an app block
Set a timer to Custom position, add the app block from the app, paste the Timer ID, and move the block where you want it.
Add a countdown to a marketing email
Build an email timer, copy its HTML snippet from the Code tab and paste it into Shopify Email, Klaviyo or any tool that accepts HTML, then test it on two devices.
