Place a timer anywhere with an app block

Set a timer to Custom position, add the app block from the app, paste the Timer ID, and move the block where you want it.

Custom position shows a timer only where you place the app block, in any theme section that accepts app blocks. It works for product, bar, landing and cart timers.

Set it up

  1. Check that the app embed is on. No timer shows without it, block or not.
  2. Open the timer. On the Placement tab, choose Custom position, then save or publish.
  3. The tab now shows the Timer ID, with a copy button, and an Add app block button. Copy the Timer ID.
  4. Choose Add app block. The theme editor opens on the right page type, with the block being added: a product page for a product timer, a collection page for a landing timer, the home page for a bar, and the cart for a cart timer.
  5. Paste the Timer ID into the block, which the theme editor lists as Countdown timer.
  6. Move the block where you want it among your sections, and save the theme.

Check it on your store

Open the live page in a normal browser window and on a phone, not only in the theme editor preview. If the block shows a hint in the theme editor instead of the timer, it is either empty and asks for a Timer ID, or there is nothing to show yet: the timer is not published, not running right now, or the app embed is off. Only you see these hints.

Good to know

  • Online Store 2.0 themes only. A vintage theme has no sections that accept app blocks. The app checks your live theme and says so on the Placement tab.
  • Not in the Add block menu? The section you have open does not accept app blocks. Use the Add app block button in the app, which adds the block in a new apps section.
  • Never twice. A block can also hold a timer that keeps an automatic placement. It then shows only on pages that match that placement, and the automatic spot is skipped there. One timer per block.
  • Blocks belong to the theme. After switching themes, turn the embed on again and place the blocks again.

Add a timer to collection pages or the password page

Show a landing page timer at the top of all or chosen collection pages, or on your password page, with a button or a clickable bar.

Add a timer to the cart page and cart drawer

Show each shopper a countdown on the cart page and in your theme's cart drawer while their cart has items: the minutes, the title that holds the clock, and what happens at zero.
