Set up a countdown bar across your store

Run a countdown in a bar at the top or bottom of your pages, with a button or a clickable bar, an optional close button, and the pages it should skip.

At a glance
  • Shows: Across the top or bottom of the page
  • Per page: One bar

A top or bottom bar runs across your store on the pages you choose. It can carry a button, and shoppers can close it when you give it a close button.

Set it up

  1. Check that the app embed is on. The app Home shows its status, with a button that opens the theme editor at App embeds. Turn it on and save the theme.
  2. Create a timer and pick the top or bottom bar type.
  3. On the Content tab, write the text, set the countdown and choose what happens once it ends.
  4. Set the bar position: top or bottom of the page. A top bar can be sticky. Turn the close button on or off.
  5. For a call to action, add a button, which links to your home page by default, or make the whole bar clickable.
  6. On the Design tab, pick a preset and adjust the colors, layout and font while you watch the live preview.
  7. On the Placement tab, choose where it shows: every page, the home page only, all product pages, chosen products, products in chosen collections, all collection pages, chosen collection pages, or a custom position.
  8. With every page, open Exclude specific pages to leave out page types (home, collections, products, blogs, blog posts, cart, search, the 404 page), addresses that contain a piece of text, or keywords.
  9. Choose Publish.

Check it on your store

Open your home page and a few other pages, in a normal browser window and on a phone, then open a page you excluded. Close the bar: your browser remembers that, so to see it again, open a private window.

Good to know

  • URL or keyword. A URL exclusion hides the bar on any address that contains the text, so a short one can hide more pages than you meant. A keyword has to be a whole part of the path: sale hides the bar on /collections/sale but not on /collections/summer-sale.
  • A bottom bar pads the page by its own height, so it does not cover your footer. Sticky is for a top bar only.
  • Your theme's announcement bar. Two bars stacked push the page down. Decide which one carries the message while the timer runs.
  • Closes are counted as dismissals in the timer's analytics.

Every bar placement and exclusion is in Placement, countries, and translations.
